Eidos de Padriñán captures something genuinely rare within Rías Baixas — "Eidos" refers to the traditional backyard garden arbors where Albariño has historically been grown throughout Sanxenxo, and this wine is sourced from more than 100 of those tiny individual parcels, some containing vines over a century old. Adega Eidos sits in Padriñán parish, overlooking Sanxenxo harbor on the southern edge of the Val do Salnés subdistrict — the westernmost, most maritime-influenced reach of the entire Rías Baixas appellation, often considered the birthplace of Albariño itself.
Just over 8 hectares (20 acres) of old, largely ungrafted Albariño vines, averaging 50 years of age with some individual vines reaching 80 and even 100 years old, are planted across these south-facing granite slopes, protected from harsh north winds. The 2023 vintage is hand-harvested with two separate selection passes through the vineyard, then undergoes cold maceration for maximum aromatic extraction, followed by a prolonged natural fermentation using only indigenous yeasts, aged in tank on the fine lees before bottling in April following the harvest — a process The Spanish Table describes as capturing "the soul of Rías Baixas."
Vinous's Joaquín Hidalgo awarded a genuine 90 Points. The Sorting Table's own tasting of this exact vintage found "tropical aromas of orange blossom, pineapple and lychee," describing the palate as "indulgent and textured," "rich and enveloping, delivering a mature and defined profile," recommending a drinking window of 2025 through 2030. A separate tasting from the same importer found "chamomile and jasmine aromas" segueing "into a palate of green olive, lime and peach sustained and freshened by ample minerality and freshness." Ben There, Drank That's independent review captures the house style directly: "a wallop of bright acidity, lovely stone fruit and citrus notes, and often this fantastic little saline kick, like a rogue wave of flavour that reminds you of its coastal home." Wine Hub's tasting adds "white flowers over a salinity touch and white fruits" on the nose, with "fresh and tangy" character on the palate, "lots of white peach and citrus flavours with a long signature sea salt finish." This is genuinely serious, old-vine Albariño — real textural richness and salinity from vines that have called these tiny Sanxenxo garden parcels home for generations.
Eidos de Padriñán 2023 Albariño is produced by Adega dos Eidos, located in Padriñán parish, overlooking Sanxenxo harbor on the southern edge of the Val do Salnés subdistrict, in the westernmost, maritime extreme of D.O. Rías Baixas, Galicia, Spain. The wine is made entirely from Albariño, sourced from more than 100 tiny garden parcels totaling just over 8 hectares, planted on south-facing granite slopes protected from north winds, with old, largely ungrafted vines averaging 50 years of age, some reaching 80 to 100-plus years old.
Grapes are hand-harvested with two separate selection passes, de-stemmed, crushed, and undergo cold maceration under temperature control for maximum aromatic extraction. Fermentation is natural, using only indigenous yeasts, in stainless steel tanks at low temperature. The wine ages in tank with extended contact on the fine lees before bottling in April following the vintage. Bottled at 13-13.5% ABV, 750ml.
