PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The 2022 Domaine Robert Groffier Chambertin Grand Cru is a deeply accomplished Burgundy Pinot Noir from one of the Côte de Nuits’ most respected estates. Combining profound fruit concentration, nuanced spice, and classically structured tannins, this wine reflects both the prestige of the Chambertin Grand Cru terroir and the meticulous craftsmanship of the Groffier family. With ageworthy balance and intense aromatic depth, it stands among the most compelling Burgundy Grand Crus of the 2022 vintage.
Produced by Domaine Robert Groffier Père & Fils in Gevrey-Chambertin, Burgundy, France, this wine comes from a small, historic parcel within the Chambertin Grand Cru vineyard — one of the most revered Côte de Nuits locations for red Burgundy. Groffier’s approach blends generational viticultural knowledge with modern cellaring finesse: grapes are carefully harvested and vinified with a high proportion of whole clusters before extended maceration to extract fine phenolic structure, then aged for nearly 18–20 months in French oak barrels (including a significant proportion of new wood) to support both depth and complexity. The result is a Grand Cru that marries terroir purity with refined maturation.
Decanter – 98 points
Decanter awarded the 2022 Groffier Chambertin Grand Cru 98 points, praising its thrilling intensity and aromatic complexity — from fig and blackberry fruit through gunflint, wood smoke, leather, earth, and menthol nuances — along with concentrated yet velvety tannins and superb overall drive.
Nose:
Intensely perfumed and layered, with blackberry, fig, and deep red plum aromas woven with gunflint, wood smoke, leather, earth, and menthol — a complex aromatic tapestry that signals both power and elegance.
Palate:
Full-bodied yet finely balanced, offering rich, concentrated dark fruit built around a core of mineral intensity and framed by savory spice, subtle tobacco, and structured, velvety tannins. The oak integration adds nuance without overwhelming the varietal depth.
Finish:
Long, persistent, and harmonious, with lingering dark fruit, gentle spice, and a mineral echo — promising further evolution with extended cellaring.
